Composite professions

Between the growing need for plastics and composite materials and the need to control their life cycle in order to limit their environmental impact, the scope of an engineer’s work is particularly vast. The field of action is equally vast, from vehicle lightening to the inclusion of disabled people and the improvement of sports equipment.

Practical training

The apprenticeship alternates between IMT Nord Europe and the host company. On the one hand, you will be supervised by a tutor, a teacher from the school, who ensures a permanent, formalized relationship with the apprentice and the apprenticeship master. The latter, an experienced company executive, will organize and monitor your work. The content of the assignments and the skills assessment agreed between you and the company are validated by IMT Nord Europe.

Academic training

The Plastics and Composites Engineering curriculum provides you with all the fundamentals in the scientific, technological and human fields. At the same time, immersion in the company enables you to put all this knowledge into practice, as well as taking on responsibilities and working as part of a team. This dual pedagogical approach is particularly effective, as it means you’ll be up and running in no time. It also demands a great deal of hard work on the part of the students, to develop their sense of initiative, autonomy and independence. A 6-month in-company project completes the curriculum.

The courses

The course comprises 8 teaching units over 3 years:

  • UE Materials
  • UE Manufacturing Processes
  • UE Product Design
  • UE Engineering Sciences
  • UE Industrial Efficiency
  • UE Management, International Culture
  • UE Sustainable Development
  • UE Projects

Apprenticeship projects and assignments

Apprenticeship projects are managed in partnership with the host company.

1st year: integration

  • Mission 1: integration as an operator (6 weeks)
  • Mission 2: integration as a technician (14 weeks)
  • Writing of a 1st year apprenticeship report

2nd year: 2 projects (17 weeks)

Develop your problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills with :

  • a scientific and/or technical project
  • a monograph project

3rd year: end-of-study project (24 weeks in a company)

The end-of-study project develops the apprentice’s project management, critical thinking and analytical skills.

Admissions

After a BUT, a licence or a BTS, you need to follow 4 steps to have the chance to enter this training program:

  • Submit your application here between February 1, 2024 and March 12, 2024. The application fee is €77 for the 1st course applied for, and €22 for each additional course (€22 and €11 respectively for scholarship holders).
  • If you are selected by the pre-selection jury (results by April 2, 2024), you will be invited to attend tests and a motivation interview at IMT Nord Europe from April 16 to 19, 2024.
  • The list of eligible apprenticeship candidates will be issued by a jury no later than April 24, 2024.
  • All that remains is for you to sign an apprenticeship contract with a company, which is equivalent to final admission.

After a CPGE, the Plasturgie et Matériaux Composites apprenticeship program (in partnership with Polyvia Formation) is accessible via two routes: the e3a competitive entrance exam (MP-PC-PSI preparatory courses) and the PT mark bank, for which registrations take place from December to January on SCEI-concours. After the written tests, interviews are held in Paris, Alençon and Douai from June to July (dates to be confirmed on SCEI-concours). Around 60 students with a Bac +2 level (CPGE, DUT, BTS, L2) are admitted each year.

To ensure fairness between candidates, the tests are designed to give no advantage to any particular profile. There are no registration fees for apprentices, once the apprenticeship contract has been signed.

It is also possible to join the program as a continuing education student, subject to the following prerequisites:

  • Hold a Bac +4 or higher diploma in the field.
  • Holders of a validated Bac +2/3 with a minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in the field may be admitted via a Validation des

Acquis Professionnels (VAP) after having put together a specific file that takes into account the scientific and technical skills acquired through professional experience.
To obtain the diploma, trainees must demonstrate a sufficient level of English (TOEIC 605 points minimum) at the end of the course.
