MSc Advanced Design and Management of Durable Constructions

A global approach to buildings from their design to their maintenance and repair!

Goals

Building the word of the future

Buildings, bridges and roads are constructions that have an impact on their environment and the populations, of all species, who inhabit them. An awareness of these environmental exchanges is essential to bring the necessary ecological, energy, digital and industrial transition.

All the foundations of sustainable construction

The MSc in Advanced Design and Management of Durable Constructions at IMT Nord Europe gives you knowledge of sustainable construction, from design through to maintenance. It combines a strong expertise in civil engineering (design, sizing, works calculations) with detailed knowledge of the environmental impacts of works. It also trains you in the design and use of innovative materials from the circular economy.

A course at the heart of innovation

The course teaches a new way of building, based on innovative, bio-sourced, sustainable materials with low environmental impact. You will be at the very heart of innovation in IMT Nord Europe laboratories, in direct contact with researchers. There you will undertake impact and sustainability assessments on materials and their life cycles.

You will also be introduced to the use of 3d printing in construction, to the concept of the smart home and the mobilisation of data for managing sustainable constructions. In addition, your management and project management skills will be developed during a semester at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, our academic partner.

Job opportunities

Business Director

The business director manages the technical drafting of a construction or installation “project”. He or she determines, in a general or specific manner, the technical processes, organisational methods and costs in order to create a draft project of the future construction operation. He or she is also involved in undertaking the construction survey, defining the operating conditions and ensuring supervision responsibilities.

Director of Design Studies

The director of scientific and technical studies is responsible for developing understanding and new products or processes. Reporting to the general management, to the R&D department or to the research department of a company or a public or semi-public body, their duties are generally undertaken within design offices.

Director of production / Director of operations

The director of production is the operational representative of the industrial strategy. They ensure the proper functioning and optimisation of the production process. The director of production in general reports to the industrial director, the technical director, the plant director, the unit director or the managing director (in small organisations).

Project director

The project director creates both the feasibility study and the business proposal of projects which are entrusted to him or her. He or she has a technical coordination role, from business negotiation to project management, all the way to its completion. He or she is the intermediary between the customer, the internal departments and the external service providers. Depending on the size of the structure and the complexity of the projects, their missions relate to technical, commercial or managerial fields. He or she generally reports to the commercial or technical management of the company.

Works Director

Reporting to the project manager, the works director is responsible for preparing and managing the production of civil engineering works. He or she is responsible for transmitting the directives to establish the programme of works, following its development and establishing updates to planning and budget. He or she represents the construction site with the customer and external bodies and manages the teams deployed.
