Energy is the ability of a system to change a state. It can be calorific or thermal (heat), electrical (electricity), mechanical, chemical, nuclear. For this, we need resources that are fossil (coal, oil, gas,), nuclear (uranium) or, fortunately, increasingly renewable (wind energy, solar energy, wood energy, geothermal energy, biomass, hydraulic energy, tidal energy, etc.).
The engineer's resources
The mission of a specialist engineer in energy engineering is to provide answers to the energy needs of companies, their processes and production units. They carry out and coordinate technical studies to define, design and improve processes and industrial facilities linked to or using energy systems (electricity, gas, nuclear, oil, renewable energies). They ensure the optimisation of energy consumption, its smart management (running, monitoring, Smart Grid) and the integration of renewable energies into industrial processes.
Training and research
To train you to respond to all these challenges, several courses are offered at IMT Nord Europe, apprenticeship-based, through continuing education or via MSc degrees. Researchers from IMT Nord Europe’s Centre for Education, Research and Innovation Energy Environment are also working on the study and optimisation of energy production, in particular for energy efficiency purposes for buildings, within a sustainable development strategy.
